‘Generazioni del Cielo’ is a contemporary musical opera in the form of an oratorio. Premiered in 1986 at the Teatro Metastasio in Prato, this historic debut featured monumental and visionary set designs painted by the renowned avant-garde architect Massimo Scolari. Rather than following a conventional plot with physical events, the subject arises from the desire to tell an unusual story built entirely around deeply felt emotions, drawing inspiration from contemporary literature and sacred texts.

From an operatic and harmonic perspective, this work for choir and orchestra marks a fundamental milestone in Roberto Cacciapaglia’s artistic journey, representing a deliberate and authoritative simplification of his musical material. As the composer shared in an April 1986 interview with Nicoletta Gasperini for Panorama magazine, the project stands as "a border-line work, completely outside traditional canons [...] and absolutely free of historical references."

Within the stage production, the classically conceived music is projected into a technological and multimedia environment. Here, ancient traditions and modern electronic pulses seamlessly dialogue and interact, dissolving the boundaries between eras into a profound, universal ritual.
