Quarto Tempo

“For many years, when I am at the piano to compose, I stay completely still before touching the keys and starting to play,” says Roberto Cacciapaglia. “I start from silence. I enter a specific state that I recognize, and from that silence, sound appears. It is an essential and direct sound that goes beyond obstacles and divisions. It is not a mental or intellectual process; it is music that moves from emotion through melody and harmony. These are the primordial elements of the power of sound in every era.

'Quarto Tempo' is the space beyond the limits of the three times: past, present, and future. It is where the before, the moment, and the after meet and dissolve. It is a deep space, a place where I find an open way of listening to music and to the feelings it brings to life. This desire to go beyond borders is a constant center of my work.
History used to separate distant musical eras, but that perspective has changed. It moved from a time-based view to a space-based view. This changes our relationship with time: we are not only influenced by what comes right before us. A sound from five hundred years ago can move us with the same strength as a sound from five years ago. The rolling tape or the needle on a vinyl record - once symbols of time passing - are now replaced by hard disks. There, time does not flow; it becomes memory. The flow of time becomes space.
Personally, I am interested in music in mythology. I mean the music that, through the power of sound, enchanted dolphins and made trees dance in the myth of Orpheus. Or the sound that broke down the walls of Jericho. I believe that music, a universal language, should speak to everyone without needing too many explanations. At least on a deep level, it just needs to be felt and echoed inside us, so we can listen to what it evokes.

My relationship with music has been closely tied to my personal growth for many years. It is a teaching that brings me closer to the essence, like a mirror. Through music, I feel part of a vast world without limits. It gives me the chance to share my hopes, and to communicate what I feel and what I believe in.”
