Alphabet

In English notation: A-B-C-D-E-F-G. Sound, like the Alphabet, is timeless and still, until the letters expand in space. They enter language and time, and through their shapes, they reveal the world around us. I often imagine sound as being dressed, masked by the musical forms of different eras. These are the masks of sound, reaching our perception through endless transformations and roles. Letters move vertically, as frequencies in space. Numbers move horizontally, marking the flow of time. The meeting of letters and numbers creates a space-time dimension. This is why letters and numbers are the codes of Music. The work of the musician and composer is to transform the world of sounds into pure energy.
...We are about to record in the Sala Verdi at the Milan Conservatory. Its extraordinary soundboard holds the history of music. In the empty hall, I feel the timeless traces of sound that have traveled through and filled this space; it is still there with all its strength. I seem to perceive musicians, performers, composers, and the audience. It is an invisible but clearly felt presence. It is like being with your eyes closed in front of a mirror.
Before I begin, I stay completely still. I prepare myself as always: to look and see, to listen and hear. In the hall, the piano is alone, solid and monolithic - a sailing ship with tight, sensitive strings. Around it is a vast, invisible space. When I play, I must be conscious and present. I must observe, act, and integrate the Live Sound, like an Astronaut in the empty space of the mind.
We are recording with innovative and sophisticated technology, using processes that allow us to make visible and bring to light what is inside the sound: its components, the harmonics.
The piano is the central sound in a space that expands. Its harmonic waves become like rays of light. They linger in the air, with the power to clear the thoughts of those who listen, entering a deep, transparent level of our soul.
While I play, I connect an inner state of presence with the creation and spread of sound, through vibrations—the energy highways of communication...
