Reading the extraordinary text "I Versi d’Oro" one realizes that Pitagora possessed the knowledge and wisdom that bores deep into the essence of things. He brought together with harmony notions and subjects considered far apart, with a complete sense of unifying importance.
Pitagora’s work is everlasting and close to the sensibility, psyche and emotional perceptions of our epoch, which is divided in its choices by diverse musical influences not closely related. Today it is necessary to follow a path, to once again find a connection, to the forgotten values and many aspects of music not considered or even avoided.f music and soul were the same thing, one would have to search for the nature of the soul in the laws of music, to discover the secret of its aspirations, hidden and confused by the trauma of matter. Music and numbers, in a symbiosis that in the deep essence of the real, reveal itself as an identity, confirm the supreme value of proportion, from which the harmony of universal life is adapted. In the proportion the soul recognizes this harmony of which it is a part, and through this identification process realizes its authenticity. In this self-recognition is the end of man, and this is achieved thanks to the sensation of beauty, which in turn is born out of the experience of proportion.
The number is also the measure of truth. Therefore beauty and truth coincide, at the point in which also the difference between rationality and intuition nullify, categories of a thought that is separated from the totality of the real, of which music is a sign, because music is involved in both. Inside universal harmony there is man’s action according to the real sequence of his behaviors. The duty and prize of human life is to follow this measure of being. The poet Archiloco said "Know the rhythm that possesses man", long before the time of Pitagora, and this solemn warning became the most important teaching of his ethical doctrine. Devotion to the gods. Comprehension for man even when he is wrong. Moderation for all the necessary things of life and inner strength against pain. Respect of ones self-dignity and justice towards the world, meditation on ones actions and interior purification: these are the main teachings in which Pitagora’s wisdom indicates the path to reach equilibrium between the human condition and the order of the universe.
